Abstract

In the field of high-performance and energy-efficient scientific computing, FPGAs are promising candidates. In this paper, we show a case study of applying FPGA-based system for Modified Newtonian Dynamics (MOND) cosmological simulation. The numerical simulation is based on TreePM algorithm of N-body problem. TreePM algorithm combines the PM (Particle Mesh) method on large scales with a tree method to provide fine resolution. So two kinds of accelerate module are integrated in FPGA. We leverage the customizability of the FPGA on-chip memory to construct a dynamic reconfigurable cache in order to enhance the performance of the interface between accelerate modules and external memory. Our solution achieve 37.3 times performance than CPU implementation.
